please help me !!!! How to set up internet linux mint12

Hi i'm a new user.I already install the linux mint12 within window7.
But i don't know how to connect the internet via Ethernet cable.
It show that wired is connected but I don't know where i can type user name and password to login.

i try to type on the part 801.2x security but there still can not get in to the internet

Launch network connection, in wireless tab you can click add if you didn't see any connection. If you see a connection, you can try edit.
Note : i am not notebook user ( don't have wireless card ) . But try search in forum if your network adapter have problem in LM12 or not. Some network card has been install by wrong driver.
Check in "additional driver" if your Wifi card needed proprietary diver

check your adapter type with command :

inxi -n

thank you so much for you reply again, i really appreciated but the place where i stay there are no wireless connection.It just only wired(cable) connection .the problem is i have to find where i can type the username and password to log in the internet server of the university but i couldn't find.

yes i already did it but it doesn't work. i think so may be they need some specific thing to fix it.

Perhaps your university internet connection needs a proxy server to be set up?
