*topic [split];
@joutlan, this problem is different from the one where you had posted this question in the beginning:
- as you can see from your inxi -F your comp. has 2 graphic cards
Card-1 Intel 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller Card-2 ATI NI Seymour [AMD Radeon HD 6470M]
and here lies the issue (unfortunately i have no experience whatsoever with hybrid cards to try to help you)

and one last thing, please show us the output of inxi -F as normal user and not as root (as above).

Thanks for splitting this out for me....apologies.

Ok...I figured it was the hybrid graphics....I had Scientific Linux 6.1 on it without issue as that one defaulted to the Intel Video. This is my second laptop and I wanted to put something Debian on it as SL is kept on my main machine. I'm rusty at Debian. I'll post the user output as soon as I get back in there.

thanks zerozero!

If anyone knows this one, I'd appreciate it! Like I said, SL defaulted to Intel Video and had no issues....it's an older kernel but I was hoping for more support with the newer kernel here.
