Disable UNDERSCAN from BIG hdtv with ATI fglrx driver

Post by ibe63 »

This command eliminates BLACK EDGES from BIG screens like 50" Panasonic TX-P50X10Y plasma. might work with others aswell.

sudo aticonfig --set-pcs-val=MCIL,DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan,0

HUGE Thanks for KULIMAZI who picked it from http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Configuring

I bookmarked and browsed through it also, but the THING was well hidden among the DUAL HEAD stuff. I'm VEEERY happy now. I searched the solution for this too long.

i'm embarassed to say how long  BUT this is the GREATEST thing ever happened to me with linux. ..and i knew it can't be so complicated. See Kulimazi's reply in this

Ubuntu topic about year ago http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1409508 simple, beautiful and genious ... :D

OK, good tips..
But I love the black frame
--I don't want the TV to stretch any image just to fit..

Why I always buy widescreen format for DVD, when available
--now I am used to seeing a black frame and don't mind it at all

And that is beacause, even when I use a computer, I want the correct image (no stretching), but on a very large screen, I am probably only intending to play games
  • Certainly would never run application software on such a large screen: no matter it's quality..

Using plasma tv with black edges long time will 'burn' frame around the screen if you didn't know it. Little similar thing was with the old monitors you know. And by the way
It's relaxing to surf in the net and lie on the sofa.with right resolution everythig looks just correct and if resolution is high and things looks too small we have Ctrl + to adjust fonts good for eyes.
Yes and using it golf simulator screen and movie screen. It's for hole family ..very useful. Dont have to stretch or stress.

..if you didn't know it
I did, but..
Used to be a problem, not so much with newer Plasma TVs'

  • The good news is that for the past couple of years quality manufacturers have been steadily working on improving plasma technology resistance to "burn in" with great success. One technique used is motion adaptive anti burn in technology, which focuses on moving the on-screen image ever so slightly.

This changeover INCREASED Linux usage from about 70% up to 93% of the total PC runningtime. :D
