What video card and what driver?
You might try

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
grub has nothing to do with video

Sorry
The "resolution thing" is not a problem in the main gnome version of Daryna
The Daryna KDE is actually forked off Kubuntu, so I don't know...
Will try to remember to reboot into Daryna KDE (it's on the same computer while Bianca KDE is on another)
I actually don't even have a single resolution in my xorg.conf (nvidia card)
As for editing grub
If you want to edit menu.lst

Code: Select all

kdesu kate /boot/grub/menu.lst
If you want to move grub to another distro you don't "edit"
see the wiki
http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... _your_grub
which can also be used to move grub

Ah - you're that guy :)
One of the first lines in menu.lst is
gfxmenu=/etc/grub/message.mint
You have to make an own message.ultumix or you could use ordinary grub.

Quite frankly - you don't possess the necessary knowledge to produce a distribution of your own and I can't babysit you in the process
Sorry, but that's the way it is
as someone in the forum has as his/her signature
