filesharing

Postby rxsieben on Fri Jun 20, 2008 2:57 pm

:?: Please help: In Elyssa I have no chance to share a folder in the Network.

When I try to activate a folder in the local network, I get the following warning, and I do not know, how to handle this: :?

'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error Permission denied
You do not have permission to create a usershare. Ask your administrator to grant you permissions to create a share.

Filesharing cannot be activated.

Thanks

Have you created a shared folder in
Control Center > Shared Folders
If not you get permissions problems

I'm trying to do the same thing as the previous poster, in my case to share folders between my linux mint desktop and my xp laptop. I've screated a shared folder in the control center. I can see it from the laptop. When I try to copy to it from the laptop, I get permission denied.

I've also tried creating shares from the properties window of folders. Again, permission is denied.

I've set an smbpasswd.

What else do I need to do?

Thanks,

Using LMDE edition, what I had to do was, first go to Users and Groups, then Manage Groups > Sambashare > Properties and then check your user name.

Later, go to /etc/samba/smb.conf, and under the [global] section, add usershare owner only = false

Log out, then log in.
