So I was looking for something to throw onto a little netbook that would do what I need, but still be friendly enough for the wife to use when we're traveling. Just about anything is fine with me as I don't spend much time in X, but for the wife I needed to find a distro where absolutely everything would work right out of the box (random USB devices included), be quick about it, and not be a laughably minimal install or a pile of eye-candy that will obfuscate more than it dazzles.
Mint, with MATE fits the bill rather spot on. I'm not going to be worried about things crapping out unexpectedly, having to install software when I'd rather be enjoying a night-cap, or any other such nonsense. I particularly like how it plays nicely with proprietary drivers and I haven't got to fiddle about with ndiswrapper or anything else. In fact, I found I liked it all so much I actually made a small donation last month, perhaps I will again.
...anyhow, hello, and keep up the good work.
