LinuxMint 12 KDE 64Bit - Life Expectancy?

Hi,

Been running Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 7 Home Premium 64Bit for over a year(I feel sick)
and have been patiently waiting for a great Linux distro
and I have finally found it in LinuxMint 12 KDE 64Bit!

LinuxMint 12 KDE 64Bit was released in beginning of February 2012.
What is the life expectancy of this release before a newer one is released?

With Kubuntu 12.04 being released at end of April
will Mint team release a new KDE release based on this LTS Kubuntu 12.04?

Thanks!

Jesse

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

The Mint release cycle loosely follows the Ubnutu release cycle. Ubuntu 12.04 will be released in late April, 2012. Expect Mint13 to be released 3-5 weeks later as a Release Candidate and 2-4 weeks after that as a final, stable release. This is the main thrust for the Mint team after an Ubuntu release, so development of the KDE version is usually low priority until the Main Edition is released. Mint 12 KDE was released in January, 2012 after the release of Mint 12 Main in November of 2011. This time frame is pretty much typical of Mint releases.

Of course this is just until a new version is released. Mint 12 KDE is a standard release with an 18 month life. It will be supported until mid 2013 when Mint 15 KDE is released.

Mint 13 KDE will be a long term support release. In the past this has meant 3 year support. Ubuntu is talking about moving to 5 year support for LTS releases. There is no word yet about Mint following suite, but it is likely.
