Help! Some issues with Mate

Postby marcthespot on Fri Feb 17, 2012 4:14 pm

Hi All,

Just a few issues that maybe somebody has a quick answer to. When I first Installed Linux Mint 12 everything seemed to be working. My problem now is that on the Mate Panel at the bottom of my screen when I minimize applications i.e. chrome, Thunderbird they don't appear in the mate panel (when I first installed they did). I can be running numerous applications and not one will appear in the mate panel. Also, when I Right Click on the panel or the Menu label nothing happens.

Another issue I installed an Application Crossover Games but decided I no longer wanted it and removed it from my system. After it was uninstalled I still have Crossover Games in my MATE menu. Is there a way to manually remove Crossover from the menu?

My Current Theme Configuration
Windows Theme - Mint-X
Shell Theme Mint-Z-Dark
GTK+ Theme - Mint-X-Metal

Thank you for any help in advance

Sorry , i don't notice that
Do you add custom PPA for MATE repository :?:
Maybe theme incompatibility, change theme to Mint-Z MATE or carbon.
Or you can try reinstall mate panel

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install --reinstall mate-panel

Reinstalling doesn't touch the config files. In gnome 2 if I rename the ~/.gconf/apps/panel to ~/.gconf/apps/panelBACKUP and log out/in I will get back the default panel configuration. One panel with mint menu. There is a similar config file for mate-panel but I don't know what it's called.

dragon, I tried what you did for the gnome2 panel but it didn't seem to work for the mate panel.

I renamed all the following and still nothing

2 .mate2old
drwx------ 2 marc marc 4096 2012-02-18 11:12 .mate2_privateold
drwx------ 2 marc marc 4096 2012-02-18 11:14 .mateconfdold
drwx------ 3 marc marc 4096 2012-02-18 11:13 .mateconfold

Did you log out and in again?
Is there a ~/.gconf folder?

Yes, I do and I just renamed it to .gconfold logged in and out with the same results. I'm not able to right click the panel and windows don't minimize to it.

Also, I created a new user on my system and logged in as that user and had the same symptoms under the new user.

Pic of the panel below
