My Software Manager has disappeared (SOLVED)

Post by Tony.B »

Yesterday I reinstalled LMDE. Don't ask why - long boring story which includes indiscriminate use of the delete key.

Anyway, today, having done all the updates, I wanted to configure the fonts in LibreOffice and in particular remove those in languages I don't yet understand. So I opened up Software Manager, and was happily uninstalling when suddenly it froze. Everything stopped. My mouse-clicks didn't click, so I tried to close Software Manager by Alt+F4 but that didn't work either.

In desperation, I switched off my computer & restarted.

Then I clicked on Menu intending to open up Software Manager again.
  • But it's not there.
    • Gone.
      • Help! (please)

Reinstall it then. Open the terminal and paste this:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall mintinstall

^^Lol, so many "installs" in that line

Thank you so much, sagirfahmid3. I had no idea this "disaster" of mine could be fixed so simply.

I have a tiny complaint, though:
  • In Menu, my new Software Manager now appears in the section headed Administration. But it is listed BEFORE Services, so it's not in alphabetical order.

Lol how'd that happen? I'm using Mint 9 and the menu editor, alacarte, can organize items. Do they have it in Mint 12? :?
If not, then you can "sudo apt-get install alacarte" and see if it works.

Thanks for the idea. I tried that and was informed that the latest version of alacarte was already installed.

But, while I was messing around I accidentally fixed it all by myself:
  • Right-clicking on Menu brings up an option to edit the menu, which I did.
Thank you again for the assistance.
Regards
Tony
