Please note that this ISO was not officially announced so it's not Mint 12 LXDE RC yet and if something is wrong another ISO may become the official Mint 12 LXDE RC.

Usually Clem waits some time so that mirrors have time to sync and he has time to write the official announcement. If everything goes well this is going to be the official Mint 12 RC LXDE iso file but if some serious problem is found then a new ISO file is required.

I always start playing around with the iso as soon as it gets to the mirror but once the official announcement arrives I download and seed the torrent file and start using this new ISO file. On one of the last Mint releases there was a problem with one of these non official releases. I want to make sure that anyone downloading the ISO in the mirror knows that.

I think it works well. I did a full install to a 16 gig usb stick without any issues. I didn't notice any power manager so I installed xfce4-power-manager. I didn't notice any way to control brightness from the panel like on the older version of Mint LXDE. In trying to get apps added to my panel I broke the panel, all the icons left aligned and I lost my windows buttons. Rather than do a complete reinstall I just installed LXDE desktop.

I agree. Mint 12 LXDE RC looks good and it's lighter than Mint 11 LXDE (out of the box because of the autostart file/directory problem) but has some problems:
The installer option for autologin doesn't work (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 03#p546639).
The /etc/bash.bashrc file has the mint-fortune line but doesn't work.

Improvements over Mint 11 LXDE:
- Uses zram in the live installer to work better with low RAM computers, 512MB of RAM and less has 50% zram swap, compression ratio during install is about 2x. This means you can install without the need to setup a SWAP partition first even on computers with only 256MB of RAM and Gparted will work from the live CD with 256MB of RAM instead of having to use fdisk/cfdisk or another distro CD.
- Doesn't have the duplication problems between the autostart file and directory that Mint 11 LXDE has (two update-managers, two applets.py, two xscreensaver, etc).
- Doesn't have the login mouse issues from Mint 11 LXDE.

Other changes:
- moved a lot of stuff from the autostart file to the autostart directory.
- Uses Leafpad instead of Gedit (nice on a LXDE distro).

Looks like a great release!

Glad you mentioned auto login. I was sure I had checked auto login during install, but it wouldn't auto login nor could I discover settings for it.

Anyone have any problems booting directly from ISo using netbootin? If not I think I will download and play a little bit, having little experience with lxde

The Mint 12 LXDE "RC" installer requires 4.2GB of disk space to continue the installation, more than Mint 11 LXDE and Mint 12 (Gnome3+MGSE) CD!

Is there any way to continue the installer even if you have less than 4.2GB?

Mint 12 LXDE: Installer requires 4.2GB (4.0GB Gparted)
~2.4GB Install
~2.5GB Level 1-2 Updates
~2.5GB Level 1-3 Updates
~2.7GB Level 1-5 Updates
All values with "apt-get clean".

Mint 12 CD: Installer requires 3.5GB (3.3GB Gparted)
~2.1GB Install
~2.1GB Level 1-2 Updates
~2.3GB Level 1-3 Updates
~2.5GB Level 1-5 Updates (~2.9GB before "apt-get clean")
All values with "apt-get clean".

The Mint 12 LXDE installer requires 0.7GB more than the Mint 12 CD installer but the distro only uses ~0.2GB to ~0.4GB more.
The Mint 12 LXDE installer requires 0.4GB more than the Mint 11 LXDE installer and 2.0GB more than the Mint 10 LXDE installer! This last one was less than necessary for install, updates and swap but at least you could get to the manual partition and use a smaller SWAP partition or no SWAP partition at all.

I understand that ~3GB for install and updates plus swap requires ~4GB but I can fix that by not using a big swap (or using zram), removing a few programs I don't need, clean the local repository of retrieved package files with "apt-get clean" and only doing level 1-2 updates.

The Eee 701 4GB SSD has 3.7GB (Gparted), it's possible to install Mint 11 LXDE or Mint 12 CD and Mint 12 LXDE should also install with manual partition but the installer stops before that on a Virtual Machine with the same disk size (I don't have the Eee 701 with me now).

Don't know why Mint 12 LXDE uses more disk space than Mint 12 CD (codecs + what?) but Mint 12 LXDE RC needs a diet to work with 4GB SSD's.

Great!

It's just missing Lxrandr, Lxmed and LibreOffice instead of Abiword/Gnumeric.

I tried Linux Mint 12 LXDE RC1.

What I noticed:

- The boot menu splash screen is cropped.
- With the default boot parameters, I got stuck on a black screen.
- With the boot parameters "quiet" and "splash" removed I got into X.
- The LXDM theme could get some love.
- All fonts now have the same font size. :)
- All fonts now are a bit to small. -> Did you changed the DPI size?
- If you use the Mint-Z theme, the font in the task bar is white, what makes them hard to read.
- If you use the Mint-Z Mate theme, it's okay.
- Programs now start noticeable slower. I would say, two times slower. -> Has that to do with "zram"?
- When I add a repo I'm now greeted with a prompt.
- Midori is constantly crashing.

I think for some of the things, it's useful to fill a bug report.

But I am not sure where to report them.

Where do I report bugs?

zram it's not installed by default on the disk, only on the live mode if you have 512MB of RAM or less.
