Very small nautilus and Mint issue

Postby Lumikki on Wed Feb 22, 2012 9:26 am

When I start my computer and open Nautilus from menu, panel or favored. It will cause my mouse cursor be busy (animation only) for 15 second. I can still use nautilus, just fine.
This will not happen if you start Nautilus from desktop by clicking home or your computer icon. Also if you logout your user to login screen and then back, issue is gone.
This will happen at least in Cinnamon and Gnome (MSGE) desktops.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I have that issue too, and I didn't know for that "trick" with logout - logon (thanx for that).
( Actually, busy cursor is gone, but on the bottom panel there appear additional folder icon named <opening "name-of-folder-that-is-opening">, and that last for about 15 - 20 sec. )
Also, I have partition with (last useful edition of) Ubuntu 11.04, and Nautilus works OK there, without that annoying busy cursor.
I'm using gnome classic desktop.

This became really annoying. However, I noticed that MATE desktop does not have that problem.

(I'm back in gnome classic)
I opened System Monitor , and noticed there is process:
<nautilus - Sleeping - 0 - 0 1767 - 5.0 MiB poll_schedule_timeout>

When I END or KILL that proces, and go to (for example) >Places>Documents, nautilus now opens it normal without 20 seconds busy cursor.
However, looking in system monitor, opening that folder triggers again that annoying nautilus process:
<nautilus - Sleeping - 0 - 0 1952 - 18.3 MiB poll_schedule_timeout>
so that next and every other opening of whatever folder (from "Places" menu) will again be with annoying busy cursor.

Ehhh, ending or killing that process causes all desktop icons disappear. :(

Hello, it's me again :)

This problem was really annoying so I searched everywhere to find a solution.

I finally found something, so if someone has the same problem, perhaps this solution can work (I use Linux Mint Maya with Cinnamon):

- open a terminal and go to your home folder
- type: cd .local/share/applications/
- type: gedit nautilus.desktop
- Modify the file and replace "StartupNotify=true" by "StartupNotify=false"
- Save, close gedit and do the same thing for the following files:
> nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
> getdit.desktop (only if you have the same kind of problem with the application "gedit")
- Restart Cinnamon, then it should work!
