Solved-"Laptop Battery Critically Low" at full charge

Postby BlueSky77 on Fri Jan 20, 2012 9:37 am

I've been having a problem with Mint 12 64 bit (Main Edition) with Gnome 3. When I unplug my fairly new laptop from the power source, I get a warning that my "Battery is Critically Low". A quick check of the battery indicator shows that my battery is 98% FULL and that I have only a few seconds remaining. Within a short time the laptop hybernates no matter what I try to do. After exiting hybernation, the battery indicator shows that my laptop battery is 98% full and I have 2 1/2 hours remaining (which is actually what it should be).

I'm not sure what's going on but this is getting VERY frustrating! Can anyone offer some assistance with this please? I previously had Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64 bit installed on this laptop and this never happened. My battery is fine and after exiting hybernation, it does keep running for about 2 1/2 hours until the battery is drained.

I found a post regarding a similar problem in the Mint forum under: Other Edition Support > LMDE (Linux Mint Debian) > Newbie Questions... however since I'm not using that version, felt that posting here would be more appropriate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

For anyone that is having this problem I found a fix:

Open dconf-editor... go to org > gnome > settings-daemon > plugins > power

Uncheck "use-time-for-policy"

I hope this helps someone else experiencing this problem.

Came here following a link by Remoulder. It would be really useful if the Mint team could incorporate this into an updated Mint 12 Live image as it is a right P.I.T.A. having to make this change each time I boot off my LiveUSB stick.

Hi there!

I couldn't find settings-daemon:

Is there a way to do this via Terminal?

[EDIT]: Terminal gives me the output:

Code: Select all
No such schema 'org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugin.power'
