One more Conky problem

HI everyone,

first I would like to apologize for the crossed post and for going over conky problems again but I have read many many threads, here and in other sites, and I cant find any help for my problem.

I have installed Conky with the software center and ran it very well (standard standard). When I read some threads about customizing my conky I went to ~/.conkyrc and of course the file wasnt there. No problem created on blank. Then conky didnt want to work anymore.
Tried to look in other forums and here what to add to conkyrc and all I tried were coming with strange errors, everytime a different one.

I then deleted the .conkyrc and tried to edit directly on the conky.conf (can do a little but if I try to add other specifications like temp etc it stops working).

I have tried many different suggestions to conkyrc configurations but none worked.

I am runing Mint 12 lisa (pretty plan as I just installed) x86 in a Samsung R580
Have followed the wikihow as well as my last and simpler guide and still not working: http://www.wikihow.com/Configure-Conky

Any help would be very welcome.

In Mints software manager install conky-all

create ~/.conkyrc and put your conky code there.
(if it's blank, then it doesn't do anything.)

You can test the code just writing conky in you terminal, when it doesn't give errors then it's ready to go.
(ctrl c to get out of testing)

Typo, forgot the .

Yes that is what I did many times, I created the ~/.conkyrc and tried many different codes, all of them were giving many problems. Even if I just let it blank or copied exactly the same contents that are on the conky.conf it would comeback with errors.

The code at the wikihow is pretty simple and straight forward but still didnt work.

I dont know anymore what to do to add my laptop temperature to be displayed!

What errors?

To read temperatures you need to install lm-sensors and configure it.

Hi Lumikki,

the sensors are already installed and they were working. When I run sensors in the terminal it gives me all the answers. It is pretty much the conkyrc that no matter what I put in there gives me the errors.

Using the .conkyr example that wikihow gave (which is pretty standard):

here are the errors I encounter:

Checking the lines it indicates there is no error at all (at least not to my noob eyes :) )

This is wrong, there is no if statement but there is endif.

You could just grep the temperatures from sensors command output, little like this.

But check you "sensors" output first to see what to grep there.

There is something else wrong too in your code, but I did not find it. I doesn't seem to show the output at all.

As promised, coming back with the feedback:
It works very nicely and all the sensors seams to be working fine. Can see all the temperatures and processes, etc etc etc.

Thank you very much for the help.

btw the colors also fit very nice with my background so no need for changes haha!

Now I will search how to put it to start automatically when I start the computer.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to make it pretty and even some stuff could be wrong. I was just trying to make it work for you.
You have to check you sensors output to fix correct temperatures in correct spots. I think I tryed to put CPU temperature in MB spot, not sure.
It takes little bit learn the syntax of conky as how to modify. Just trying stuff will go long way.

In menu there is software where is starting programs, when system boots up. You can just add there new one.
Invent some name for it and then put conky as started program, the name of conky is just enough.

My point is while it's now working, you need to now customize it for you needs. Good luck.
