Probably a story you have heard before but, windows 7 crashed. Black screen, blinking cursor. Tried the boot thing. Tried everything. I am NOT a computer expert or even close to it. I can do basic things but that's about it. Had the computer guy at work look at it. Said the partition was damaged and the solution was to re install windows 7 which was going to cost me.
So he put me on to Linux. I tried out unbuntu, didn't like. Tried open suse, wouldn't work right. Tried Linux mint KDE, couldn't understand it. Then tried Linux Mint 12 Gnome 3 and thought it was great.
Fortunately windows 7 was still there and I could transfer all of my files. My guy put me in touch with WINE and all but one of my old programs works. So I lost almost nothing switching over. And my son has been telling me for years to switch. He's right. I like Mint 12. It's easy, infinitely faster than Win 7 which I liked until it crashed. None of those constant restarts and downloads and updates. I don't foresee ever going back.
Linux Mint 12 breathed new life into this 3 year old Toshiba!
