Skype problems?

Postby BruceCM on Thu Feb 16, 2012 10:43 am

It doesn't seem to be possible to use that program on here. I click on it & it comes up with the top of the window for it, & the indication of activity but then it just disappeared again! Several times. Sorry, I'm rather new to Linux, didn't hear about Mint until recently & I did get Lisa first (which I still have & do like but I know I do prefer the KDE desktop from Kubuntu, if I can do what I want to.. Thanks in advance! 8) SOLVED

Install Skype i386 from synaptic package manager if yours is 64 bit Edition. It is working on my PC.

I have found this problem with Kubuntu, it seems to made worse if you move the mouse whilst it is starting up. Sometimes you have to open Skype four or five times before it is OK. Funnily enough, I use Zorin OS 5 and Ubuntu 11.10 as well and they never seem to behave in this manner, I think it may be a KDE problem.

Well, if it's a a problem in Kubuntu & here but not in Ubuntu & Lisa, it would certainly seem to be due to KDE. Am I usually supposed to get the i3886 versions, then, since this is the 64 bit version? Many thanks! :)

Stumped! when I click on Skype, and Google Earth for that matter, small icon comes up and bounces around for a bit then nothing happens, Mint 12 KDE 64 bit machine. Been a user of Mint (9) for a while but rarely delve into The konsole. Suggestions appreciated. :(

sudo apt-get install libxss1:i386 libqtcore4:i386 libqt4-dbus:i386
sudo apt-get install libqtgui4:i386

then sudo apt-get install skype
