KDE update issue

Postby colyn on Wed Feb 29, 2012 9:03 pm

I just did a routine update on my KDE Linux Mint 12 64 bit laptop. After the update I have lost the startup and shutdown sound but all others such as VLC and sound in Firefox works fine..

Running KDE 4.8.0..........

Went to system notifications and found both login and logout checked but would not play the sounds. I then picked another and it now works. Don't know why the defaults would suddenly quit...

Sometimes Linux reminds me of those old comic scenes where the old washing machine won't start. They give it a kick, and it starts right up.

hi, :D

Try clicking the same sound file. It looks like the paths are corrupt or incorrect.
You will have to do this for most of the sounds.

Hi all;

I just went thru this same problem. Sounds for audio and video were fine but no notification sounds.

I finally figured out that by browseing to the sound file restores the sound. In other words it wanted the
full path statement.

For ex. the login sound was shown as

KDE-Sys-Log-Out.ogg

in the edit box but I had to have it show

/usr/share/sounds/KDE-Sys-Log-Out.ogg

for it to work again. Don't know why :o
