(solved) folder image icons?

Postby eastexas on Fri Feb 24, 2012 3:12 am

Hi all, noobie to linux and these forums. Just install LMDE and can't be happier with the results so far. Everything is running smooth with the vast information I have found here but one thing I can't seem to find an answer to is this........

How can I make folders show an image like on win7? I have a massive collection that with win7 have folder.jpg's in them which on win7 showed the image on the folder. I would like to have LMDE do the same as I really don't want to redo all these folders. So is there a way LMDE can read these folder.jpg files and show the image on the folder instead of just a generic folder?

Any help with this would be appreciated moving one step closer to liberating myself from Windows.

ps. I will try to give a description of my set up but as I said I am a noob so be gentle.

LMDE 64bit( so Gnome3? )
compiz (window manager?)
no themes

Thanks for reading and if I should have put this in another location please forgive. Look forward to your responses and new horizons with LMDE

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi!

Here comes a late answer.
In gnome/nautilus you can't. Here's a proposal for that function:

If this function is important for you it is awailable in KDE:

ps. welcome to Linuxmint and the Mint forum!

Thanks for the reply and that solution worked great. If you are on Natilus 2x or 3x then Cover Thumbnailer works just fine. I am on 3x with LMDE and you just pick the .deb file from their site and let the manager do the work. Reboot and all is well. I have folder.jpg's in every folder and they show up now.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me. This was going to be a deal breaker for me with Linux and now I have no reason to not switch to Linux for good.

I post the link to the project so it's easier to find:
http://projects.flogisoft.com/cover-thumbnailer/

Oh, a ppa for the project too and it's all maintained. I'll try it out for sure:

I don't know what that PPA is or what it does but I will do some googling to see if I can educate myself. Thanks again for the help.
