I have been using docky before with Ubuntu, and now with Mint. For some reason it is really lacking in performance. I have searched the forums and it does not seem to be an experience shared by others, so I asume it might have something to do with my setup
Anybody who have an idea why this problem could be?

Hard to say, because it could be something in conky code.
I don't have lack with conky, but I use pretty simple conky code.
How much CPU your conky use? For me it's about 1%
Does it show any errors when you run it from terminal?
