[SOLVED] Network manager crash on OpenVPN connection

Hi,

This is LMDE XFCE 64bit UP3.

Sometimes, (normally on 2nd time after clean reboot) when activating a OpenVPN, the icon from network manager disappears and this is shown in the syslog:

Code: Select all

I keep being connected (not VPN).

From this point, restarting network-manager does not fix it. Only a clean reboot allows me to connect to the VPN again.

And you have of course checked out that error?

VPN connections sometimes have issues with the network manager applet; fact of life..

[SOLVED] Re: Network manager crash on OpenVPN connection

Hi,

Thanks!

Solved, the problem was solved using the post from http://abautu.blogspot.com/2010/07/work ... twork.html

The problem was I used a .ovpn previsouly exported that had lines specifying:

Code: Select all
user openvpn
group openvpn

I recovered the original .ovpn file I got and now it all works again. Full diff following:

Original file that works
Code: Select all
#OpenVPN client conf
tls-client
client
dev tun
proto tcp
tun-mtu 1500
remote XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 1194
ns-cert-type server
pkcs12 "XXXXXXXXX.p12"
cipher BF-CBC
comp-lzo
verb 3
route-method exe
route-delay 2

Exported file from the one above that does not work consistently if it's imported again:

Code: Select all
client
remote XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 1194
pkcs12 XXXXXXXXXXX.p12
cipher BF-CBC
comp-lzo yes
tun-mtu  1500
dev tun
proto tcp
nobind
auth-nocache
script-security 2
persist-key
persist-tun
user openvpn
group openvpn
