"Theme will not look as intended"

Postby chilinmichael on Sat Jan 21, 2012 1:22 pm

As stated in topic, when selecting themes, they all say "Theme will not look as intended because GTK+ theme engine "aurora" (or other depending on theme) is not installed"

Is there a way to fix this? Does it matter?

Well...I just did that but it said already installed, 0 updated etc etc. Problem still exists.

*instead of posting endlessly just updating this. I found the packages in software manager to fix the issue I created (mint defaults gone) and fixed that. Now I still have the same issue, it's complaining for example murrine engine is not install, yet it is.

...and under Gnome, there are no system settings anymore, and change desktop background doesn't bring up anything. Woops, def. did something wrong there.

I just wanted to give MATE a try but encounter the same problem ... and all files are installed.

If you found a solution please post.
Thanks

This issue, and many other, are solved in latest MATE packages, currently not available in Linux Mint repository. You should follow those guidelines http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/download to install the new and fixed packages.

I've tried following the guidelines on that website and i'm still getting the same error.
Maybe I'm not doing it correctly? I am a bit of a noob after all.

Perhaps someone who has had this problem and successfully dealt with it could write up a tutorial and then we could make it a sticky. :)

check what versions ur packages are
for example mate-applets
if thei are 1.0 then u still have linux mint ones
should be 1.1.3 or similar

important part of enabling tridex repo for latest packages under mint is:

If you want to try the latest MATE packages, you can use the tridex repository for Ubuntu. Once set up the repository, you need to edit the /etc/apt/preferences file as follow:
Package: *
Pin: release o=linuxmint
Pin-Priority: 700

Package: *
Pin: origin packages.linuxmint.com
Pin-Priority: 700

Package: *
Pin: release o=Ubuntu
Pin-Priority: 500

Package: *
Pin: origin tridex.net
Pin-Priority: 700

I had the same issue. To solve this, just do the following:
1. Follow the instructions on http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/download
2. Reboot your PC. Not just Logout/Login, it has to be rebootet. I don't know why, but logout don't work.
3. After Rebbot, the Update-Manager tells you, that there are some updates. In my case, 58. Install the updates and reboot.
Yes, it has to be a reboot!
4. You're done. No more "Theme will not look as intended", the link for more themes also works now.

Hope, this helps and my english is not too bad to understand.
