[solved] The spell of the white icons

Postby roger64 on Mon Mar 05, 2012 3:19 am

Hi

I am still struggling to space conveniently (4 px intervals) the icons of my panel. If you look the photo, you'll see on the left three unhappy white icons, Ethernet, Sound, Gpaste, huddled one against another, and then colour icons, normally spaced (following the theme specifications). Here they are:

My wish would be to space the white icons like the colour ones. Am I missing something?

Thanks for any tip.

Yep, you sure are missing something(s) :lol:
They are spaced out perfectly because of "spacers." You can create as many spacers as you want by right clicking on panel and clicking on "add spacer."
(In LXDE and Mint 9 I can do that. I don't know about Mint 12 or Cinnamon, but it should be called something similar).

Hi

@sagirfahmid3

Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid but for Cinnamon (Gnome3 generation), it does not work this way. Furthermore, I would like to know why some icons are "well" spaced and some others not. I should have found something in the css file of my theme, but I did not.

Well, In gnome (from mint 9), you can drag the spacer to your needs. Can you drag them?

Find this section

Code: Select all
.applet-box {
   padding-left: 3px;
    padding-right: 3px;

- and adjust the padding, the higher the value, the more space between applets. You can also copy/paste the latest cinnamon.css from git (a sort of manual update): https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/b ... nnamon.css

Or change to another theme with better padding between icons.
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

Hi

@bimsebasse

You're a real guru, aren't you? :D

Well your applet-box command above did wonders. I selected a 6px value (left and right) and this time, the white icons complied. It does now indeed looks much better.

I am using (I should have said it before), the "regular" Cinnamon theme.

I previously downloaded and installed the latest cinnamon.css but it did not change anything, even the Me... Menu bug was still there.

Thank you very much. This is solved.

Ah OK the me... bug is not solved on theme level, you have to wait for the next stable release of Cinnamon for that (a fix has been implemented in the newest git version)
