LX12 64-bit - Kodak ESP C315 issues

Postby Jonathanwri73 on Thu Mar 08, 2012 10:03 am

Hi,

I am running Linux Mint 12 64-bit and confident to use command line but relatively newcomer to Linux Mint, recently got a Kodak ESP C315 printer which is working great on Mac and Windows PC's but for my son and I we both run Linux Mint systems and are no longer able to print.

I've read various forum articles in forums and install notes on the CUPS driver for Kodak in Sourceforge about how to go about installing the driver for the printer but I am still at a loss.

So far I have:

1 - Installed the c2esp_18-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb package from Source forge

2 - Tried adding the printer through System Settings -> Printers and then Adding the printer, which identifies the printer as an Eastman-KODAK-ESP-C315 printer and when clicking Add, within a few seconds responds with Failed to add printer.

3 - Tried adding the printer via the CUPS web gui (http://localhost:631), but whilst it appears to be setup and added as a queue and I send a test print which appears to disappear from the print queue, nothing is being printed at the printer.

I am sure something is being missed, especially in going through the steps to add the printer particularly the step where you enter the connectivity settings (i.e. should it be http://<Printer IP address> or ipp://<Printer IP address> or socket:<Printer IP address>) but so far none of the options I have tried work and am now at a loss as to what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Jonathan

Hi,

Since sending the message I was able to solve the problem myself.

Below are the steps I used to resolve the problem on Linux Mint 12 64-bit:

1 - Goto http://sourceforge.net/projects/cupsdriverkodak/files/

2 - Download the following files from the site:
- c2esp24.tar.gz
- c2espinstaller.sh

3 - Make the c2espinstaller.sh script executable

4 - Run the c2espinstaller.sh script, this will take about 3 minutes to download additional dependent packages, compile and prepare a new driver.

5 - Goto http://localhost:631

6 - Click Administration option

7 - Click Add printer button

8 - Select the Eastman Kodak option that appears in the Network printers list toward bottom of the screen and click Continue

9 - Enter the socket://<Printer IP address>:9100 and click Continue

10 - Enter details for description, location and when ready click Continue

11 - Select Eastman Kodak from the list next to the Make field and click Continue

12 - Select Kodak ESP C310 printer if you are using Kodak ESP C315 printer and click Continue

13 - Click Add Printer button to complete

14 - You can finally adjust any resolution defaults, but finally complete by clicking Add Printer

You can then perform prints, thing to bear in mind is that the resolution is limited to 600x600 right now, but for text printing this is fine.
