Moving From windows & Setting Web Development Environment

Hello all , I have moved from Win 7 & Microsoft Web Matrix to Mint !! After Hours of Searching & Reading articles I have installed Aptana , Lamp & Mysql WorkBench .
The problem is I can't run php file from Aptana or any other place except /var/www ( Writing in my browser http://localhost/file name ) !!
Any Advices , Help will be appreciated !!
PS: I'm new to Web Development !

I have no knowledge of Aptana other than it's a web development ide. My suspicion is that you will need to point the resulting pages to something within /var/www. Hopefully the output is either .htm, html or .php.

If you are just starting out, I would strongly recommend learning the code and forget all of the glitz of an ide.

I'm doing the both because an IDE really facilities Coding !!
& I'm using Netbeans now , Its debugger is really good !!
