Cinnamon 1.4 is available (testing?)

Postby Konstigt on Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:24 am

https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/b ... /changelog

Package for 1.4 is uploaded to Romeo..

Edit: Btw, it's REALLY nice!

Hot-corner can now be moved and all bugs I experienced with 1.3.1 are now gone..! :D

Yeah, saw that here: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/03/cinnamon ... w-hot.html <- lots of info and video on what's in the release.

I'm not seeing everything that's in the video yet, but I won't worry about it until it's "officially" released.

Edit: changed my theme and restarted, and I have everything shown in the video now. It's great. I use a lot of workspaces, and I really like the improved workspace management in this drop.

Heh, okay. So that's why I got the update to 1.4. I forgot I had Romeo enabled. :roll: And here I was wondering why there was no announcement. Getting old does have it's disadvantages at times.

And I agree, it is a nice improvement especially the ability to right-click on the Menu now for editing the menu, adding and removing applets and accessing basic panel settings. Getting better all the time.

Yes it's not in stable yet so only users who have actively selected the "unstable" romeo repo will get the update.

I'm so impressed with how quickly Cinnamon evolves, not 3 months ago it was just Gnome Shell with MGSE extensions hardcoded into it, now it's a strong and independent entity improved and refined daily. I had no problem with Gnome Shell but as far as I can see it needs to catch up with Cinnamon now and not the other way round. The only things left Gnome Shell has over Cinnamon is calendar integration and the extensions site.

You'll have to use the stock theme to add workspaces until everybody updates their themes to 1.4. You add workspaces by going using your hot corner button and clicking on the plus sign. :wink:

One little problem I'm seeing in 1.4:
When one opens more than two windows on a workstation, it smooshes the menu button- four windows open makes it disappear. Also, it pushes the red "O" Opera icon over to the top left corner. This doesn't seem to be a theme issue, as I've tried it on the default theme, same thing happens.

You can add workspaces in all themes, you just can't see the button in themes that aren't updated. Click in the middle of the right edge of the screen and you'll get a new workspace (if confused, change to default theme, see where the add wokspace button is, change to preferred theme, click where the button was). My themes all are updated with buttons and daniel4lm (eleganse, elementaryOS, glass-shell etc.) is also quick to update his themes.

Many thanks for updating your themes so quickly. :D

Cheers, I put those buttons in more than two weeks ago, they're old news in git Cinnamon :D

That's quite amazing of you. Updating your themes for future releases of Cinnamon before they're released. Nice to be able to see into the future like that--or is it? Depends on what your seeing I guess. :D

In my experience git Cinnamon is as stable as the one that hits the official repos now and again so if you're curious it's recommended to go bleeding edge.

I have installed the Messaging Menu applet and really like it but can someone who knows how to code tell me how to get it to show notifications for new emails, etc? I know zero about coding :wink:

That's weird, are you sure you are using Cinnamon 1.4? How did you update?

check your /usr/share/cinnamon/theme/ folder, does it have an add-workspace.png? Open the cinnamon.css same place, find the "Overview" section, does it look like this:
Code: Select all
#overview {
   spacing: 12px;
}
.window-caption {
   color: white;
   spacing: 25px;
}
.workspace-controls {
   visible-height: 32px; /* Amount visible before hovering */
}
.workspace-thumbnails-background {
   border: 1px solid rgba(128, 128, 128, 0.4);
   border-right: 0px;
   border-radius: 9px 9px 0px 0px;
   background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);
   padding: 8px;
}
.workspace-thumbnails-background:rtl {
   border-right: 1px;
   border-left: 0px;
   border-radius: 9px 9px 0px 0px;
}
.workspace-thumbnails {
   spacing: 14px;
}
.workspace-add-button {
   background-image: url("add-workspace.png");
   height: 200px;
   width: 35px;
}
.workspace-add-button:hover {
}

.workspace-close-button {
    background-image: url("close-window.svg");
    height: 34px;
    width: 34px;
    -cinnamon-close-overlap: 20px;
}

.workspace-thumbnail-indicator {
   outline: 2px solid white;
   border: 1px solid #888;
}
.window-caption {
   background: rgba(85,85,85,0.8);
   border: 1px solid rgba(128,128,128,0.40);
   border-radius: 4px;
   font-size: 9pt;
   padding: 2px 8px;
   -cinnamon-caption-spacing: 4px;
}
.window-close {
   background-image: url("close-window.svg");
   height: 34px;
   width: 34px;
   -cinnamon-close-overlap: 20px;
}

Ok, so everything is as it should be but doesn't work :D

No idea why you're not seeing the expo buttons if you're using the default theme :?
