Hello everyone,
I'm new to the linux world in general, however the problems I'm having are uncalled for... As far as I understood adopting linux brought the benefit of a stable operating system, unlike windows which crashes a lot. However moving from Windows 7 (where I don't even remember the last time it crashed) to Linux Mint where I just crashed 5 minutes ago, and 10 minutes before then. I'm starting to wonder why exactly I moved. But that's all in the past now, so I'll figure out this problem, or find another linux distribution that DOESN'T crash every 10 minutes. I picked Linux Mint because from testing different linux distributions in a virtual PC, linux mint seemed the easiest to migrate from the Windows world into the Linux world THEN I'd think about getting more down and dirty into the linux world.
Anyway I recently installed linux and my system has been crashing every once in a while without warning. It might be when I'm downloading files, it might be when I'm preforming file operations, or maybe even checking my email or while I'm away from my computer. It crashes, or freezes I should say. What happens is, whatever was on the screen stays that way, nothing I press or do can change anything I simply have to press the power button. I'm guessing its some aspect of my hardware that isn't being handled correctly however I have no clue what it is or what I should do. If its something that I installed then it'd have to be the NVIDIA BETA Driver or the other one, matter-of-fact I'll disable it and see how things go now. I can assure you that my hardware is good enough to run the operating system for I custom built my computer with Intel's Core-I7 with 6 cores and 16GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics card. If their is any other information about my system you want I can provide it to you.
For now I'll be playing around with programs trying to figure out how to stop it from crashing (like I just uninstalled CompizFusion because I found in other threads on other forums that it was a possible problem) and disabling those beta drivers. I hope someone here can provide a solution and I can get back to what I do best.. programming..
Thank you in advance.
