Hardware Volume Keys no longer work

Postby menders on Tue Dec 20, 2011 2:02 pm

I recently switched from running Mint 11 LXDE to running Mint 12 with the MATE desktop. My hardware volume keys on my HP Compaq nc8230 used to work under Mint 11 LXDE and now no longer work under Mint 12 Mate Desktop. Not a major problem but an annoyance.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I have the same problem on my dell inspiron 1520.
When I use the gnome3 that is also included in mint 12 I have no problem with the hardware sound control buttons, but in the MATE desktop the are ignored.

I've got the same problem at the moment. Also using MATE, also worked when I was on GNOME3. I just wish I had a product key I could use to refer to my computer, like the above two

edit: I've found a very temporary 'fix' for it - if you keep Audacious running (make sure it is not using 'software volume control' by unticking the relevant option in Preferences > Audio) and enable the plugin called 'Global Hotkey' and assign shortcut keys through that, it should work. Working for me.

Any real solutions for this? I've read elsewhere that it may be a missing daemon (one that would be present in GNOME2), but as to a name for this daemon, I have come up empty-handed! :(

If, really, no solution can be found, can I report this as a bug somewhere? Should it be under Mate or Linux Mint itself?
