Importing Kontact data to Evolution ...

Post by tenfoot »

Hi!

I currently use Kontact for its diary and addressbook facilities. This is because I came to MINT from openSUSE and was used to them.

Having used Gnome for some time, I now prefer it and have installed Evolution and want to transfer all Diary and Address book data from Kontact but Evolution isn't co-operating. I click on Import and follow the instructions but there seems to be no option to import KDE data.

As I have a couple of hundred addresses and about a year's diary entries, I don't want to have to re-enter manually.

Any advice would be accepted with gratitude.

tenfoot.

My experience with both kontact and evolution is zilch
Is there a possibility that you could do this in stages? That is, use another application as "middle man"
That's the best I can offer - thought you've waited for an answer some time

Thanks for your reply. I was beginning to despair :-)

I've been considering taking another route to achieve what I want and that is to set up a database. Can you recommend a good, easy to set up database program which "loves" to work with Gnome?

For the last 15 years I've been using !Impact on a RiscPC, which runs RISC OS. Setting up and editing databases on that system was simplicity itself. I'm hoping to find one as easy to use in Linux.

Regards from New Zealand on a very hot and humid Sunday afternoon.

Open office has a database
And I found this front end for any database (but read mysql)
http://www.gnome-db.org/
And it's strange - Thunderbird which I use only offers import from Netscape
And - I found this! Tells you how to import from Kontact to Evolution!
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=263700
Don't know why I did not find that earlier
Watch out for problems with versions

Right! I've had a look at both sites and the only difficulty I see is that I don't use KMail as my email client :-( However, I'll give it a go by creating a few entries in KMail and taking it from there.

Thanks again for your help.
