When I had Mint 10. I remember compiz working properly after I installed it the first time coz the driver for my graphics was the right one. When I upgraded to Katya LXDE, I assumed that it would be the same way but when I ran compiz-check, it failed coz it is using VESA driver. I've tried installing the xorg-xserver-video-intel driver using synaptic package manager and also downloaded drivers intellinuxgraphics.org but all my efforts failed.
Here are some info: inxi -G gives me
Graphics: Card Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller X.Org 1.10.1 Res: 1024x768@60.0hz
GLX Renderer Mesa DRI Intel 915M GEM 20100330 DEVELOPMENT x86/MMX/SSE2 GLX Version 1.4 Mesa 7.10.2
lsmod gives me i915 on the list
I know this card works coz like I said I used to have conky (transparent), AWN and compiz on Linux Mint 10 before.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Intel i915GM - Mint 11 - loading driver problem
I've been doing some research and what I've found is that a lot of users having "screen issue" with intel graphics on kernels 2.6.37 and 2.6.38.
I upgraded my kernel and used "intel" as my driver on my xorg.conf. Also, I edited my /boot/grub/grub.cfg and added "i915.modeset=1"
