A 13 KB file shows total size of files: 13 and size on disk: 196 KB!! Why is it so?

Please take a look at this question of mine too: Cannot change wallpaper Openbox viewtopic.php?f=90&t=97853

Thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Can you share terminal output or screenshots of this?

How much space a file will take on disk depends on the block size used. If you have a very large block size, small files will always be the minimum of one such block in size on disk (the file itself can be smaller, it is just that it will always take one block minimum to store a file; hence a difference between the file's size and the file's size on disk).

Not sure if I can post images inline. Screenshot: http://i39.tinypic.com/2u4hg9j.png

As for the block size, I've heard about it. In Windows it's 4 KB and that's why a text file of size 2KB takes up 4KB on the hard disk, right? :)

Here is the properties window showing the size of root directory as 332GB and size on disc 2.6TB. I've installed LM12 on a 11.1 GB partition and 4.3GB is free space. All data can be seen in this image: http://i42.tinypic.com/acvps6.png
Total hard disk size: 500GB
