A. You have yet make your case for more GUI dependance. Repeating the same claim over and over won't make it so.

B. The "we" you write about is powerless group unless it includes the developers and they have already spoken via the the distro they produce.

I'm sorry, but most of us aren't interested in the ideas that you gave us. Not that it isn't a good idea, but Linux Mint is perfectly fine the way it is. Ok, so I think they should use Cinnamon as the default DE in 13. However, Linux Mint is perfectly easy to use without terminal commands. I only use the terminal to install and remove applications. That's only because it's faster. And I usually know what I am looking for. But, that's not the way it will be for everyone. So for those who don't need terminal commands, they have everything else they need in the GUI and it's easy to figure out. For the most part, I am able to take my Windows experience and bring it over to Linux Mint relatively painless.

I also like the fact that Linux Mint isn't trying to be "like" Windows. It's just trying to be a usable OS. And I think it's almost perfect for the average user. It's just up to that average user to learn a few new things and switch. That's all.

P.S. I would like to see Linux overtake Windows one day. But, for the most part, that is irrelevant. If taking over Windows means compromising Linux Mint's values, then I say to heck with it. Overtaking Windows isn't nearly as important to me as a good and usable operating system.

For example, now I am stuck with the wrong time on my computer and I cant change using the GUI it and it looks like I have to use some Terminal commands in order to change it I am not gonna read about it, if I can find a GUI I am not using the Terminal, simply I refuse to and if there point arrives in which I have to many unfixed things that are only fixable using the Terminal then I will go back to Windows so see, why do I have to use the GUI just to change time, something as simple as that, so I dont think it is linux mints idea to make me waste my precious time googling endlessly for a command to change the time because that would be absurd.

It's actually really easy to change the time without terminal commands. I've never had to use the terminal for this task. In Cinnamon, I just click on the clock on the panel, and a menu pulls up. At the bottom of that panel is an option that will allow me to change my date and time settings, including my time zone.

Yep and you can't fix it because there is no easy button. That is why new new users need to find out early that they haven to developed some rudimentary computer skills if they are going to use Linux. Good Luck

Lol I have a BSc in computer science and I am a full time programmer, it is not about having skills, it is about making things easier to use, there is no need to google endlessly if everything is provided in a nice GUI.

Mint and Linux in general is just fine the way it is. I install Debian on quite a lot of senior citizens computers and they rarely have issues. These same people had all kinds of problems running Windows.

Btw Linux runs the majority of servers in the world, including Wikipedia and Google.

I know Linux runs on the majority of web servers because no company wants to depend on Microsoft. If I was going to start my own company I would choose Ubuntu Server too or maybe Linux Mint LTS since we dont have a server version.

Cent OS is the one used on most servers and Redhat is the one used on most work stations and Android on most cellphones.

but compared to Windows or MAC it looks and feels old and obsolete, so if you want to make it mainstream you will have to fix the GUI.

I started using Linux eight years ago and found the gui to be far nicer than Windows..Not to mention the fact that I could customise the stuffings out of it..There are multiple desktops,including the stunning Enlightenment.
And then there is this little thingamadoogie called Compiz Fusion..So to me, Linux looks way more modern and beautiful than the for $$$ operating systems.

Customizations are always welcome, the more the better but the default feel is old and outdated and ought to be change.

All the OSes that are making it big have nice GUIs, I do not see how you can make it mainstream without a nice GUI.
