Multi Boot DVD [SOLVED]

Postby BigSteve_G on Tue Mar 20, 2012 6:04 am

I recently had the idea of creating a multi boot DVD - the idea being one DVD from which I could install Mint 12 gnome / Mint 12 lxde / Mint 9 or Mint 10.

I did the reserch with google and came across this site http://multicd.tuxfamily.org/ which was very usefull.
So I downloaded the script file, followed the instructions & made my DVD (worked perfect)

However being a perfectionist I then started to play around with it a little - nothing major just edditing the isolinux.cfg file (menu title & line titles only), created my iso file & tested it.

The result = it didnt work, which ever option I select from the multiboot menu came up with an error saying something about label not found.

Anybody any ideas? (as even just changing the menu title has the same effect)

I've fixed Windows, tried running with Jackalopes, fought Koalas & now, I'm addicted to Mints

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

-Update-

I ended up edditing the multicd.sh file (to change the title) ran it & tested the resulting .iso & it worked 1st time no problem (Mint 12 gnome, lxde, Mint 9, Puppylinux & KonBoot on 1 DVD).

Strange thing now though - I then added a directory & few files to the .iso using isomaster & re-tested it. Whenever I select any of the Mint options (which loads a sub menu (the Mints origingal isolinux.cfg)) I get the previous mentioned error saying it can find the labels (which I didnt change), but if I select KonBoot or PuppyLinux which loads strright from the multiboot menu (not via a sub-menu) it works.

I cant see any chksum files that maybe causing the problem so I'm a bit confused how adding stuff to the DVD could stop isolinux loading submenus. - Any ideas anyone?

-Update-

Solved it- :D

I noticed that before creating the .iso file the mutlicd.sh script creates a temp' directory which it uses for the .iso's directory stucture so I simply paused the script pre-mkisofs, made my additions & alterations then let the script build the .iso

I now have a multi-boot dvd from which I can install Mint 12 gnome, Mint 12 lxde, Mint 9, run Pupply Linux or Kon-Boot all with nice looking menus (I will post a screenshot later)
