New laptop

Postby lexon on Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:35 pm

Just picked up a new 'Top today at a local Walmart. $268.95.
Compaq Presario CQ57-439WM
AMD Processor 64 bit
260 GB Hard Drive
2 GB SDRAM
Two USB ports
Media slot
HDMI port
External monitor port
Now to find a new hard drive to install Mint onto. I can dual boot two Mint versions with no problem but Windows does not play with any Linux version without issues.
Had to do that maybe three years ago with a Acer 'Top.
This way I always have a backup drive.
About every three or four years, stepson and I pick up a 'Top and find a good price at a local Walmart.
All I use is Mint but this keeps me frrom becoming holier than though by buying a MS product.
No one sells a 'Top with Linux on it for that price anyway.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Sounds like a solid laptop, especially for that price. When I bought my Asus last month the first thing I did was format the HD and install Linux. In the end the only two distros that I could use without a single problem were Linux Mint and Bodhi, which I recommend highly. Great distro and very lightweight. Also they have an outstanding community.

But then I do highly recommend Linux Mint as well. These are the only two distros that I really need.

Oh congrats on the new laptop.
