System tray dissapearing

Postby jmorris84 on Tue Mar 27, 2012 7:25 pm

From time to time, whenever I open a window, selecting the Shut Down option, or doing any other normal operation with the desktop, my screen will flicker for a split second and then come back with the system tray and menu bar completely gone. Any open/active windows will also be missing their closeout or minimize options as well. Is this a known issue with Mint 12? There have been times where the screen flickers for a split second and when it comes back, everything is ok and back to normal.

I'm running the 64 bit version of Mint 12. I also have a Radeon 6850, with the latest drivers installed.

Thanks!

Does this only happen with Gnome 3? Try using MATE and see if it still happens.

I haven't tried it with MATE but I began to use Cinnamon 1.4 today and it did it while using Cinnamon as well.

Try using MATE. Cinnamon is based on Gnome 3 so some bug in Gnome 3 could have carried on into Cinnamon.

I'm giving MATE a go now. In the event that it doesn't happen with MATE, do you think you have an idea what the problem could be?

Some issue with Gnome 3 and your specific hardware would be my guess.

Well, so far while using MATE, I haven't had any issues. MATE seems to run a bit slower though and to be honest, Cinnamon is a much prettier desktop. Hopefully someone out there knows a way to fix this.
