Need Help

Postby strat_0 on Wed Mar 28, 2012 2:40 pm

So, I'm brand new to Linux having switched over from Windows 7.
I seem to be having 3 Main problems.
First, when I start up, it says no such partition found or something like that a few times until I keep trying to boot and it finally gets through. I also keep getting a notification about drive failure. When looking at the SMART data it says I have 2047 bad sectors, Is this the cause?

Second, the bars on top and bottom of the screen like where it shows time and username and stuff is missing a bunch of characters. For example, instead of my name, CoryJackson, it has C yJ . Is this also because of the hard drive?

Third, all the drop down menus for Firefox are slanted

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Holy crap! 2047 bad sectors, thats really bad!
That can very well be causing the bootup problems (especially if the MBR, the first 512Bytes of the HDD, is involved).

I dunno about the Firefox and graphics issues. Might be graphics card causing it.
Can you take a screenshot of your SMART data and post it here?
