Installed LXDE, can't make it default

Post by Beckfield »

I recently installed Linux Mint 12 with Gnome 3. Got pretty fed up with Gnome, so I thought I'd try LXDE. I like it much better, but I can't seem to get Mint to remember to use it. When I boot the system, it loads Gnome automatically. I log out, select LXDE, and log back in, but the next time I reboot, I'm back to Gnome.

From what I've been reading, I've done all I should have to do to make LXDE the default, right? Any ideas why it won't stick?

Thanks for any help,
Beckfield

I don't remember for sure, but I think Mint 12 Gnome is using lightdm. You might try the configuration edit (without the install gnome-shell part, of course) described here substituting lxde for gnome-shell.

I installed lxde, lxappearance-obconf, lxtask and vlc-plugin-pulse over Mint 12 64-bit. It defaulted to LXDE desktop without any problems. To see more details and some of the gnome-mate stuff that I eventually removed, see http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/lubuntu.html.
