"you cannot make a new post so soon after your last"

Post by RETNUH »

I realize that preventing posts from coming from a single user so quickly helps stop spam. However it also can be annoying for a legit user.

Perhaps this feature can only apply to users with less than say, 75 posts?

If you are very active on the forums, yes it can be an annoyance. It is not just spam prevention, it is also there to prevent accidental double-posting. Anyway, with the current forum it can't be selectively applied to users depending on how many posts they have...

The forum software is open-source so in fact anybody could change it.

We could enable the "Newly Registered Users" group which is currently disabled. This would allow us to use different posting permissions for "Registered Users" to ignore the flood limit and "Newly Registered Users" to have the flood limit up to 'X' amount of posts, which point they change groups.

I'll discuss it with the team.

It would also help to get rid of spammers to let the moderator review the first post or X posts of a user. With groups this should also be possible.

... I again got You cannot make another post so soon after your last, when attempting to submit this post. I'm seeing that frequently. Don't you know that I'm not a spammer after my 3890 posts in 1689 topics?

This would be greatly appreciated.

This is true, but the forum is usually pretty fast. Also most of us who have a good number of posts know enough to give it a couple minutes  If it does happen frequently(assuming it goes through) I wouldn't object to it being reimplemented.

Same here, only to a much lesser extent :)

I get that fairly often but not constantly, and it is usually if the forum is slow that day; I sometimes think nothing is happening and re-post an entry, getting that message.

Then I might have a duplicate, requiring me to delete the extra post, that's OK, as it hasn't happened often enough to be that annoying!

It does not work. I still get "You cannot make another post so soon after your last". Or is this a protection against double posting in the same thread?

By the way, the post threshold to lose "Newly registered user" status is currently 25 posts.
It is not retroactive - and only affects new users.

Just used short messages, to avoid reaching any kind of time limit (my internet is a bit slow atm) but it seems to be OK now.

Good stuff. Permissions in ACP can be a labyrinth at times.
