Cannot change wallpaper in Openbox

Postby lmlearner on Thu Mar 22, 2012 10:58 pm

When I right-click on the Desktop I could see the standard menu (e.g. make new folder, delete to trash and so on). There was an option in the menu to switch to "openbox" so I did that to see what happened. That changed the menu I see whren I right-click the Desktop. I want to get rid of the "openbox" version of the right-click GUI. How do I do that?
Now I'm not able to change wallpaper. If I exit Openbox, the desktop kind of freezes. Firefox runs in a window, minimize/ maximize buttons disappear, sometimes it crashes, desktop right click gets disabled etc.

Is there a way to change wallpaper from this Openbox GUI?

Thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Go to /usr/share/backgrounds/linuxmint/ folder and save the jpg file with 'Read' permission for 'others'.
Set it as wallpaper and it should work.

If the wallpaper named 'wp' is initially in /media/Data, do the following:

Code: Select all
sudo cp /media/Data/wp.jpg /usr/share/backgrounds/linuxmint/
cd /usr/share/backgrounds/linuxmint/
sudo chmod a+r wp.jpg

Precisely. pcmanfm opens up the dialog box I was looking for.
But I reinstalled Mint and have taken extra care not to enable 'show menus provided by window managers when desktop is clicked'.
Thank you very much.
