If you wish to allow the connections to your ssh server from the Internet, you should open the port 22 on your router. A dynamic DNS service could also help.
The SSH server is not installed by default. If you are trying to connect to your Mint system from another system you will need to install the package openssh-server with no need to open ports on the o/s itself, just in your router/firewall..
The instructions suggested Microsoft Vista or better, so I installed Linux.
