[SOLVED] Shortcut keys inoperative

[SOLVED] Shortcut keys inoperative

Postby Burrito on Thu Apr 05, 2012 10:15 am

edit: I'm getting really frustrated at this issue. Nobody would answer me. I'm sure someone here is knowledgable enough to provide some enlightenment, what am I doing wrong?

Hey, I don't think that this is a bug, because it is reported as being fixed - may just be a setting that needs to be changed somewhere.

Here is another thread - with no real answers. Maybe people ignored it because it recieved more than 0 replies. (you don't need to click there, because I'm explaining the same thing here)

Anyways, it seems in MATE that my multimedia keys (the play/pause, forward, back, stop, volume) do not work at all. Apart from when Audacious is running with a specific setting, pressing them yields no response. This is very limiting. On Gnome 3, they work fine. And on Ubuntu and Windows 7. I also discovered that other keyboard shortcuts are also dead. The Keyboard Shortcuts dialogue reports everything as being set alright. The keyboard is USB keyboard.

I'm running Linux Mint 12, with all recommended updates installed. Here is my system configuration:

If you need any other hardware info, I'd be happy to pass it along. I built the system myself, so there's no single product number that I can just paste. :|

In addition, I'd like to request a little information. Is MATE still being actively developed? It's quite an ambitious project to be undertaking - basically developing a GNOME 2 fork for the forseeable future. Will the project be sustainable for long? Is there faith?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I have the 'mate-window-manager' package from the repository - it appears to be labelled '1.0.0-2' in my package manager, and it says it's fully up to date :S

Thanks very much! It seems to be working now. Only problem I still have is that it seems to be setting the sound on the wrong sound driver (Pulse instead of Alsa maybe or something). I think I can fix that on my own, though.
