you have

Code: Select all

deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free
and

Code: Select all

deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming/multimedia testing main non-free
that are a repetition of the same (more or less >> click in the LMDE FAQ link in my sig for more reading about the differences between latest and incoming);
you either choose one or the other.

Question???

Not sure if needs new post since relative to this one. Sorry if does.

If changed to testing/incoming what are the repercussions if now reedit back to normal. I reinstalled from ISO Directly to UP4 BUT have another computer pointing to testing I may revert back??

Thank You:

J.Jay,
you have a system pointing to testing and now want to point it to latest, right? what would happen to it? nothing, absolutely nothing :lol: you are "frozen" the system into a snapshot taken around the 20th march. assuming you have your system updated and knowing that latest will be frozen for a long time in that snapshot nothing will happen (maybe a few updates from the mint repo >> FF, TB, cinnamon) and apt doesn't downgrade pkgs (not easily and not automatically)

Thank You

answered my question as asked.

But more specifically what happens if got any packages from testing or higher version ones that are not in the UP4 pack in latest (not sure if/or what are in latest vs testing)?
Will they just freeze at current version till latest catches up, and packages non-existence in latest stay OR will versions revert down and packages disappear?

Thanks again for answer

let's imagine you do it today, you have 3 weeks worth of updates while using testing that are superseding the version n. of the snapshot in latest; if you stay in latest until UP5 those v. will be "solved" then;

apt doesn't show in an easy way that you have higher versions.

what you are thinking of doing is basically the same rationale behind UP: you freeze testing a given day and then open it again after some time and freeze it again :wink: (of course there's more to it in the UP but that's the general idea)

I figured so
If I Got it straight it's like

Higher versions of packages/apps will stay until the UP's catches up and gets to a higher version.
Packages received from testing will stay even if current holds them back/or decides not to use at all.

This sound correct?

Thank You

yes to first one, i'm having some difficulty understanding "Packages received from testing will stay even if current holds them back/or decides not to use at all." :oops: you shouldn't be facing any holding back and your system is not going "back", you are pointing the repos to the past (3 weeks past :lol: ) and you'll be using the pkgs in the system (hope i understood the question :lol: )

Yes thank you

Don't know if testing does/did

Clearer (I Hope) :o
If testing used/tested a package but was decided not to use/send (testing found breaks to many things) to latest, what happens to package?
