XRDP server on LXDE 12.0

Greetings everybody,

I am a total Linux greenhorn but have been working professionally with Microsoft products for 25 yrs.

Yesterday I installed Mint LXDE on an old desktop box (amd athlon 64, 2.0 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 200 GB HDD) and I am very impressed by the speed and general polish and ease of use of the desktop. I even managed to install the Samba GUI and get it up and running with my other computers .

I got some issues with the remote desktop connection though:

Installed the XRDP server on my Mint box but I don't find any GUI tool for configuring the service. Is that done exclusively from Terminal and/or config files and how?

When I try to connect to the box from Win7 with Remote Desktop I initially get a login window with an XRDP logo and a choice of several 'Modules' the default being 'sesman-Xvnc'. When I try to login with my username and pw for my Mint box, I get a greyish window which closes after a few seconds. If I try using the 'Sesman-X11' Module I get some error messages about Baud rate.

I do believe the problem is that the server part needs configuration but I don't know how. Please help

I am now able to establish a session, but the VNC server seems not to start up on boot with this line:

su user -c "cd ~user && vncserver -geometry 800x600 :1" at end of /etc/rc.local

I can however start it in Terminal, replacing 'user' with my current username

Also I don't get my normal desktop at the remote end but a rather grey surface without a taskbar. I am able though to run Firefox and Terminal through context menu (right mouse click)

Any ideas??

Remmina works for me Linux - Linux and Linux - Windows its in the repos, have also installed Remmina-Gnome applet. The applet is installed to the panel to control Remmina. Not anywhere near expert, but this solution works for me.
