Hi all,
I'm another Windows user moving across to Linux. really impressed with mint 2 and installed mint 2.1 but now the controls for the realplayer I used to use on the BBC site do not work at all.
Sound plays fine just no pause ffwd or stop etc.
Any clues ?
I too struggle with the terminal as its been soooo long since msdos but I am getting there
Cheers
John

Hi, I am watching BBC News fine in Mplayer
"For some reason Mplayer came up without audio or video configured, on my box after installing KDE,
Right click on screen, select configure, select video
output, and audio output (x11 and alsa in my case)
Plays BBC, C4 News, and everywhere I have tried.

Could it be to do with the video settings on Mplayer ? as last time I installed Bea i could not watch, but can now watch every thing in full screen even .mov
Also;
"The DRM framework currently relies on Microsoft technology but, the Trust says, the BBC must develop a more platform-agnostic approach "within a reasonable framework" which takes account of other technology, such as Apple and Linux"

And
Beeb slammed for 'fawning' to Bill Gates
BBC VIEWERS have flooded the corporation with complaints over how it covered the launch of Microsoft Vista earlier this week.
In one cringingly servile interview worthy of Uriah Heep, the Beeb's news presenter Hugh Edwards even thanked Gates at the end of it, presumably in appreciation at being allowed to give the Vole vast coverage for free.
In other TV news items presenters excitedly explained how Vista could be obtained and installed - details courtesy of the BBC's website.

When I sent in a complaint I got directed by email to a website
to fill in a form, comes up blank in Firefox !!!!!

Maybe this is not the right part of the forum to dicuss this, but I pointed out I pay a licence fee, why should I have to pay a Microsoft tax to watch their Media?
The complaint survey I was asked to fill in says "I need Internet Explorer" whatever that is, is it in Synaptic?
BTW Thanks Clem for the distribution.

Hi
The only controls I have ever used are
"right click" on screen for full screen,
a good guide to Mplayer, far more than
I know:

What is the specific problem with the controls?

Ah, I see, the controls do not show up in bottom of Mplayer at the BBC, but they do at all other sites
Will try? to sort, but a suggestion to the BBC to use open source codecs would be helpful.

bbc's lack of knowledge
Did you notice the complete absence of Linux in all these "News Reports"?
In fact, did you notice a frightening lack of technical knowledge in general?
LOL Yeah I noticed the lack of tech knowledge from the BBC. I also saw Bill Gates laugh when the presenter asked about competition from 'myspace, google and such. I tell friends about LInux, I try to give away disks at work and no one wants a superior to Window$ OS for nothing. Bill is laughing all the way to the bank !
