I cannot find a way to switch off alert sounds in Preferences. I find it really distracting when listening to music to have a beep when an application error or warning dialog pops up.
Is there some hidden file I can edit?

OK I found a way. In:
.config/lxsession/Mint-LXDE/desktop.conf
Change:
to:
These will take effect on the next login.
