New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
as you can see in the community website (links bellow) the isos point to incoming, this needs to be fixed before stable release, so please use them only as a test and not for a "permanent" install
you can get them from http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/testing/?C=M;O=D (at least, sure will be other mirrors with them);
just be "careful" because:
1- they are not announced yet;
2- it's an rc (and a few issues were identified >nothing major< but the idea is testing and reporting)
here they are (as promised)
LMDE-xfce 64bit http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/114 [approved for rc]
LMDE-xfce 32bit http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/115 [approved for rc]
LMDE-MATE/Cinnamon 64bit http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/116 [approved for rc]
LMDE-MATE/Cinnamon 32bit http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/117 [approved for rc]
(all 4 up for testing now)

Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
Just the day I was going to reinstall (now I'll wait for new and shiny ISO
Have they done anything to speed up boot? runs great but the boot-up time always seem slower (even compared to 'Butu's' ? slow boot seen/tried on multiple computers.

Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
J.Jay, personally, i don't have lately that many experience with ubuntu-based releases (had for some time an oneiric install upgraded to lisa and now a precise waiting for maya repos) but they always booted slower than lmde.
dado023, there's no public d/l link while the isos are in testing (that's Mint policy): the isos are tested by a closed team (we can follow the progression and comments in the community page linked above) and once the status changes to "aproved to RC release" then we'll have public isos to test.

Hmm...
Maybe my portioning schemes or something. Will try totally fresh install.
Edited (will ask question in new post)
Thank You:

Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
wohooooo, wooohaaaaa......cant wait, these LMDE updates are so rare.....i hope these update cycles are gonna be a bit shorter in the future, are they?zerozero wrote:the 2 32bit isos are now approved for RC

Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
according to this
we will see an UP5 in the end may/beginning of june (imo) but after that i think that UP6 will be only next year (because in the meantime testing goes in deep-freeze preparing the next stable debian7 and won't be much to update)I don’t expect UP5 to take as long. Firefox/Thunderbird/Flash should get updates in the near future without the need for another UP… and Cinnamon 1.5 eventually will hit LMDE as well with a new UP5 (that will happen after Mint 13 though). from here

are you saying LMDE will always have outdated Chrome/FireFox, skype, libreOffice,, ...and other progs?zerozero wrote:according to thiswe will see an UP5 in the end may/beginning of june (imo) but after that i think that UP6 will be only next year (because in the meantime testing goes in deep-freeze preparing the next stable debian7 and won't be much to update)I don’t expect UP5 to take as long. dado023,
we are going wayyyy off-topic here but it's ok, read this http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=197&t=91405 (and then post >> there any questions )

I just hope linuxmint will try to reduce UP cycles between release dates.
I want LMDE to be THE CHOICE for rolling distro....the only other distro i can think of is pclinuxos, but it is rpm, and on KDE, which i really dont prefer...also big advantage of LMDE is smaller memory footprint.
Is there any chance RC iso will be online today?
Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
Any idea how the MATE/Cinnamon iso will work?
Will it install both DEs and you pick the one you want at logon?
Or, will it offer a choice of which DE to install?
I hope the second one. I'd like to have a pure MATE desktop, and I think Cinnamon needs Gnome 3 underneath it, correct?

Off topic
thread posted is a great read for those Debian literate (like me)
Will XFCE 4.10 be in update pack5 or 6?? Is it planned for either?
P.S. know its not released till end month, so don't even know when hit Debian testing.
Wondering

Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
Well, RC versions differ, they may look & feel like alpha, beta or even release depending on how much has been tested.jjaythomas wrote:P.S. thease ar the RC versions only tho
Look at the untested cases list - this time some important things have been skipped.
Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
Both ISO's burned and liveCD boot up...
Will try install (64bit one at least) after take wife to farmers market (need sleep/fresh air new scenery) not in that order
let know how install goes tomorrow.

Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
- link for heanet added in the first post;
- mate/cinnamon iso will install both DE's with option at login (Clem said in a comment that eventually in the future they can get independent isos, but not for now)
- xfce 4.10 is just now entering experimental, if debian brings it to testing before june (so it will be included in the next debian7) we might have it with UP5
- look at the community pages (linked above) and the comments to have an idea what's missing/what was not tested (as Monsta said if they are alpha, beta or release)

Thank You for Info
nice to know XFCE 4.10 might!
Posting this from PMagic LiveCD utility Disk. Going to prepare partitions with this.
Then off to fresh install fun.

Re: New LMDE isos (Pos-UP4) in testing
Back in the LMDE RC saddle again. I was hoping that jockey would be ported for this release but it seems not as far as I can tell. Perhaps next time? On with RC then.
