Distro for old PowerBook G4

Postby cwwgateway on Mon Apr 09, 2012 9:58 pm

Hi, this post might need to go into another forum/section, but I have an old Apple Powerbook G4 with a 500 MHz processor, 128 MB of RAM, and a 20 GB HD. I would like to put linux on it, but a power pc distro that will run on 128 MB of RAM is hard to come by these days, so I was looking for some suggestions on distros. The only thing that I can find is a power pc lxde debian. Maybe a window manager instead of LXDE? I don't have much experience with window managers, so I don't know. Thanks in advance.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Try SliTaz. It can run on pcs with 32MB RAM! Uses about 33MB RAM idle on my 2.2GHz, 3GB RAM pc.

You could use Debian with Fluxbox or Openbox/tint2 instead of LXDE. Start with a Debian minimal install, add a light WM and everything else you need.
