Menu Extends past top of desktop

Postby ggkraemer on Sun Apr 08, 2012 7:11 pm

I'm new to Linux Mint and I like it. I have added 15 programs to my favorites. When I am on the desktop and click "Menu" in the lower left corner, a popup menu is displayed which extends past the top of my desktop. I'm unable to scroll the menu or get to the top part of the menu. I've double checked my display and screen settings.

Here is my HW info:

Is this a settings issue or a software issue?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

My first question would be "Why on earth wolud you add 15 favorites?", but I wouldn't go with that now; it doesn't really matter.

Anyway, could you please share with us what version of Mint you're using? Also, it would be very helpful if you could take a screenshot of the problem and share it with us. I'll be waiting for your reply. Cheers. Danko.
Cheer up! Things are getting worse at a slower rate.

Yes, that's what happens when you add more favourites than your screen resolution has vertical pixels for, doesn't matter what hardware you have :D
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

Let's make some deductive work ("Eliminate all other factors, and the one which remains must be the truth - Sherlock Holmes").

Newcomers (like me) tend to choose the last version available, so it can be Lisa or LMDE.
ggkraemer wrote:I have added 15 programs to my favorites.

So, KDE, Gnome3 or MATE. LXDE and XFCE (without MintMenu) have no favourites "pane" in their menus (by default).

So it's Gnome3+MGSE. It can't be KDE because its favourites have scrolling, nor MATE because it has MintMenu with favourites in two rows:

MintMenu

Jokes aside, you have two options if you want to keep your 15 favourites in your menu:
1) Use Mate as your DE (MintMenu),
2) Install Cinnamon with Classic Menu applet (check this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=98316#p563978).
Sorry, I only speak Spanish

Nice detective work! I was afraid I didn't provide enough information, but I didn't know where to go to get the Gnome version I was running.
I found the information on how to display my HW information and posted it and attempted to capture the menu problem with 'shutter' but it didn't do the job.
Thanks for your help. Consider this issue closed!
I've installed cinnamon and have it in synaptic. Now I just need to keep expanding my kinowledge.

Thanks
