Linux Mint 12 hangs during restart attempt

Postby Raydeith on Sat Apr 07, 2012 11:32 am

Hi!

I have just received a new working computer, Dell latitude E5520, and have installed Linux Mint 12 on it. So far it's been quite painless and everything just worked until I tried to restart the OS. During restart it completes all the steps successfully until "restarting system" at that point it just hangs. The interesting part is that the shutdown command works perfectly and the output looks exactly the same all the way except that it doesn't try to restart the system. It seems to suggest that something is going wrong when it tries to send a signal for restart, there are no problems during a regular boot.

I've tried the solution suggested here http://linux.koolsolutions.com/2009/08/ ... -restarts/, using the flags "reboot=bios" and "reboot=acpi" in my grub config. No dice.

I am running a 64 bit Linux Mint 12 standard and the following is a output from inxi -Fc0 (Host name is removed due to personal reasons, standard english characters are used thought):

I have been looking around for a while but haven't found someone with any similar problem that had a clear solution, pardon if I have missed something obvious. If anyone has any ideas or even hunches I would appreciate any feedback possible.

Yours Faithfully,

Hello Raydeith. I think the kernel is hanging on boot, is quiter rare but that happens with some kernel versions; so my advice is to boot with a previous kernel version, unistall the problematic version and try with another one. Sorry for the short answer, but I must go out right now; let me know if you need any further information. Regards!.

Exact same issue, exact same model of Dell Laptop...

Has anyone solved this yet?

Edit: Issue happened with Linux Mint 12, have just installed Linux Mint 13 and the issue persists.
