In past releases I have grown to depend on gscan2pdf, but upon updating to UP4, this package seems to have disappeared from the repositories.
Any suggestions/ideas?

when you say in past releases, are you referring to LMDE-UP3? because i don't believe that pkg was in UP3.
it was removed from testing on the 14 may http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gscan2p ... 3912Z.html and UP3 was frozen around 30 august.
there's a new v. in sid tho http://packages.debian.org/sid/gscan2pdf you can try d/l the deb from that page and install with gdebi (if all the deps are satisfied)
