OpenVPN and Linux Mint

Postby xasalja on Wed Apr 11, 2012 2:28 pm

Hi,

I have a problem with Linux Mint 12 (Gnome, 64 bits). I want to use a VPN so I installed openvpn (2.2.0), network-manager-openvpn (0.9.0) and network-manager-openvpn-gnome (0.9.0). I didn't add any PPA, I rebooted and in my connexions, I can't connect to a VPN. I mean, there is no menu for it...

So my question may be stupid (and I found no answer in the forum or elsewhere), but... how can I use my OpenVPN ??!!

Thanks for your help !

Essentially to connect to a VPN service/server, you need a VPN client running on your local machine, the server (for testing might also be on your machine), but more likely will be the host running the VPN server waiting for specific client attachments/logins..

Have you read yet!, any of the guides and help available for that program..

Ok so it is not possible anymore to just use networtk-manager to connect to a VPN ? Or network-manager is not included in Gnome 3 ?? Sorry I'm a little bit lost with Gnome 3...

And thanks for your help !

In the older Mint 11, Standard which I use, the Network Manager icon sitting down on my system taskbar is what I generally use to toggle my VPN servers on/off and to add/edit them. The Network manager and Network proxy also show up in my Gnome Menu under All: Network Connections.

Via the Terminal: Alt-Cntl-T and At the Terminal Prompt: sudo nm-connection-editor
Should pull up the Network Manager Application.

With the push by the US Government for ISP's to police and log all US Internet customers usage in July 2012, I hope the Linux Mint community and individual users are ahead of the VPN curve as VPN use and enrollment has gone up some 300% recently and climbing as individuals prepare for that additional level of losses of Internet privacy's, freedoms and security.

Thanks for your answers ! I tried what you did eddyNOR but... it doesn't work. I tried to follow this tutoriel : https://www.ipredator.se/guide/pptp/ubuntu
I know it's for PPTP and I have an OpenVPN but the problem is before this : my network manager is not like the one on the link...

I don't have the VPN and Mobile Broadband tabs... Do I have a version of network manager which is previous to the version of this tutoriel ?? I don't understand... Linux Mint 12 is based on Ubuntu 11.10, isn't it ? So what ? :?
