Wired can't connect to router.

Postby polybius on Wed Apr 11, 2012 10:26 pm

I'm new to linux and am having trouble getting the internet connection to work on my fresh mint install. When I try to connect I get 'connecting' followed by a disconnect and connection failed popup. If I nm-tool suring the connecting stage it says requesting ip information. I spent a couple hours screwing around with the ipv4 and ipv6 settings but couldn't get it to make any difference even when setting them to manual and entering all the addresses correctly.

The ethernet adaptor appears to be recognized by the OS and is a rtl8101e. The router is a thompson TG585 v7, The network settings also show the physical address of the router which I assume means they're wired together correctly and saying hello to each other. Wireless has the same problem too.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and actually need to resolve this rather quickly because I use it for online banking. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Have you checked the settings in the router? Perhaps you have mac filtering enabled? Is the cable ok and not a crossover?
